LOWBROW

Art as a Spectacle of the Banal
This exhibition is dedicated to the supposedly intellectually unpretentious art. Lowbrow.
What makes art art? Does it need the white wall, illuminated by spotlights, perfectly presented? At what point is the taped banana worth millions and who worships the shredded image ?
When we look at a piece of art, specific details always seem to matter: who created it, what material it is made of and how it is contextualized. In our LOW BROW exhibition, we take the artwork into our own hands, emancipating the beauty and the artistic from everyday life through a museum display. We present techniques, works, materials and formats that make us question whether they are worthy of art.
In the LOW BROW exhibition there is also a place for the works of children and of people who would otherwise not have seen their work, poetry or architecture as art. And even the visitors of the LOW BROW exhibition can become artists too, if they so desire.
This exhibition should not be stiff and silent but rather experienced through touch. Music and food create a casual atmosphere so that the audience can take in the artwork.
Several works encourage interaction and evolve over the course of the exhibition period. They are understood as collaborative and ongoing/open-ended/in development .
